Music and technology converge in unique piano competition
The winner of the third Minnesota International Piano E-Competition is a 29-year-old from the Republic of Georgia named Edisher Savitski. Savitski was one of six pianists who made it to the competition's final rounds, held over the last two nights at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. He finished fourth in the 2004 competition.
For his efforts, Savitski earns a $25,000 cash prize, several concert engagements and a Yamaha Disklavier piano. Finishing second was 27-year-old Canadian Ryo Yanagitani. Savitski will give a free recital today at noon at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, which will also be broadcast live on Minnesota Public Radio.
The competition used some advanced technology for judging the performances of contestants from around the world.
