The State Government Budget Division of the Senate's Finance Committee met on Wednesday to hear a bill that proposes to restore and expand the Minnesota State Capitol building.

The plan for the future
The plan for the front of the Capitol is to remove parking directly in front of the building and create a large plaza in front of the Capitol.

Cass Gilbert designed the Capitol more than 100 years ago. And, while many of the publicly-viewed spaces appear to have aged well, there are some areas that are continually exposed to moisture, mold and the effects of time.

To get a sense of scope for the proposed restoration project, MPR All Things Considered's Tom Crann took a tour of some of the hidden sights at the Capitol with Michael Bjornberg, the principal project manager for the Minnesota State Capitol restoration project at Hammel, Green and Abrahamson.
