When the show isn't good enough

Walking out of a theater in the middle of a play is its own dramatic act, especially when its done en masse. Just a couple weeks ago, a group of about 80 audience members collectively walked out of a performance by monologist Mike Daisey at the American Repertory Theatre. This sent the East Coast theater community abuzz.

The hubbub did not go unnoticed by Morning Edition arts commentator and St. Paul Pioneer Press theater critic Dominic Papatola, whose job description requires him to sit through shows until the bitter end.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer talked with Dominic Papatola about the fine art of walking out of a theater before the curtain falls.
