Congress returned to Washington this week with a long list of things to do. Reauthorizing the No Child Left Behind law is one of them.

The landmark education law passed in 2001 with overwhelming bi-partisan support. But in the years since, the law has accumulated many critics, and the political fight over its future is likely to be lengthy and fierce.

While that battle heats up, American Public Media has a new program that takes a close-up look at how the law is affecting students and teachers at one school. "Put to the Test" is a one-hour American RadioWorks documentary produced in association with North Carolina Public Radio- WUNC.

Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer talked with Emily Hanford, one of the producers of the documentary.
