As of this week, smokers in Minnesota are prohibited from lighting up in some of their favorite places, including bars and restaurants throughout the state.

While the jury is still out on the business effects of the ban, it is certainly good news for doctors, who remind us that smoking is the number one preventable cause of disease in the U.S. Smoking-related ailments such as heart disease, lung cancer and emphysema are responsible for some 400,000 deaths in the U.S. each year.

So, smokers, if the ban's got you down, maybe now is the time to consider quitting altogether. Our regular medical analyst, Dr. Jon Hallberg, talks about what options are available to help kick the habit and which ones work, and which don't.
