When audiences think of opera, the names Mozart, Puccini and Verdi come quickly to mind. But what about Jerry Springer?

The shocking secrets and shameless infidelities of the guests on the Jerry Springer television show are confessed through song in the Minneapolis Musical Theatre production of "Jerry Springer - The Opera." It runs through October 28 at Hennepin Stages.

"Jerry Springer - The Opera" was a critical and popular hit in London, but a planned Broadway production never got off the ground. The Minneapolis Musical Theatre's production is only the third time the show has been staged in the U.S.

Members of the cast came by Minnesota Public Radio's Maude Moon Weyerhaeuser studio to talk with host John Birge and sing some of the more family-friendly songs from an otherwise profane show.
