Fergus Falls child dies; meningitis suspected

A Fergus Falls kindergarten student has died, and health officials suspect meningitis was the cause.

The Otter Tail County Department of Public Health said it hasn't been determined whether meningitis caused the death of the McKinley Elementary student Tuesday. But the health agency said the child had symptoms consistent with meningitis.

The 5-year-old child died in a Fargo, North Dakota, hospital. His name wasn't immediately released.

Classes at McKinley Elementary were slated to be held Wednesday.
