Air pollution advisory out for southern Minnesota

(AP) - Southern Minnesota was under an air pollution health advisory on Tuesday.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency issued the advisory through Friday for the southern two-thirds of the state.

The worst air quality was expected to occur in the Twin Cities and Rochester.

The MPCA said stagnant winds were helping trap fine particles and allowing them to build.

Northern and northwestern Minnesota were forecast to have fair air quality. But the southern two-thirds of the state - including Brainerd, Duluth and St. Cloud and to the south - will have marginal air quality.

The degraded air quality may be unhealthy for people with respiratory and heart problems, as well as the elderly, children and physically active adults.
