Cox won the three way Republican primary. He will now represent his party in a Jan. 3rd special election.
Cox received 67 percent of the vote. New Prague School board member Rod Tietz received 21 percent of the vote, and Henderson Mayor Keith Swenson received 12 percent of the vote.
Cox hopes to replace longtime Sen. Tom Neuville, who stepped down after being appointed to a judgeship. Cox will now face Democrat Kevin Dahle, a Northfield high school teacher, and Independence Party member Vance Norgaard, an organic farmer, in the special election.
Senate District 25 includes parts of Rice, Sibley, Le Sueur and Scott Counties.
