Summit ridge
In 1966, John Harlin III witnessed his father's death on The Eiger. In "The Alps," Harlin makes his own attempt to reach the summit 40 years after his father's death. Here, Harlin and his fellow climbers make their way across the Eiger's summit ridge.

A new giant-screen film opens Friday at the Science Museum of Minnesota's Omnitheater in St. Paul. It's called "The Alps."

It's about a mountain climber, John Harlin III, who tries to conquer The Eiger, the Alpine peak that killed his father 40 years earlier.
