Plymouth police shoot bank robber after high-speed chase

Plymouth police officers shot a bank robbery suspect after he led them on a high-speed chase through the Twin Cities suburbs.

Plymouth Police Captain Dan Plekkenpol said the chase came to an end at Interstate 494 and state Highway 55. A Brooklyn Park squad car performed a "PIT maneuver" and spun out the suspect's car to end the chase.

"The suspect was not killed, the suspect is down at the hospital right now, and what we're hearing initially from the hospital, the information is that he, he's going to be going to be OK so, it doesn't sound like it's a fatal shooting or going to be a fatal situation," Plekkenpol said.

Police said the chase started about 6:45 a.m. today with the armed robbery of a TCF Bank in St. Anthony.

With officers in pursuit, the suspect hit speeds of about 100 mph. Traffic cameras captured him throwing bags of money out of the car as it sped down the highway.

Plekkenpol said three Plymouth police officers were put on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when officers are involved in a shooting.
