At a hotel ballroom in downtown St. Paul, over 400 young people were standing beside their projects and posterboards. They were dressed in their best. Some were nervous as they prepared to explain their hypotheses and defend their conclusions.

It's the 71st annual Minnesota State Science Fair, open to the best competitors from middle and high schools from across.

All Things Considered's Tom Crann paid a visit to the fair to find out what kind of experiments the kids were working on.
