Housing advocates and metro area officials told U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar about the impact of the housing crisis in their areas Monday.

Klobuchar says she held the forum in Hopkins because she wanted to underscore the point that the housing and foreclosure crises are not just urban problems.

Karen Skepper, the community development manager for Anoka County, was one of the panelists at the forum. Last year, the county had the highest rate of foreclosures in the metro area.

Skepper told Klobuchar those foreclosures occurred throughout Anoka county, in both suburban and rural areas.

"Every community's being hit and it's being hit in every range of price prices, from the very affordable, up to the million dollar plus homes, we've seen foreclosures in every part of the market," Skepper said.

Senator Klobuchar told the group that a housing stimulus package the Senate's considering could give homeowners the chance to refinance mortgages and avoid foreclosures.
