This latest round of winter is going to cause some unwelcomed stress on the state's returning bird population.

Carol Henderson with the Department of Natural Resources said the situation won't be too bad to the south where clouds have dropped soaking rains. According to Henderson the rains bring worms to the surface.

In northern Minnesota, however, Henderson said the late spring snow storms will put stress on the brids food supply, including worms and spring time insects.

Henderson estimates about a third of the returning birds are already back.

He said the rest will start to arrive in the next couple of weeks.
