Minnesota National Guard unit called to active duty

The Minnesota National Guard says more than 40 soldiers from a unit based in Hastings have been ordered to active duty and will go to Iraq.

The soldiers are from the C Company 834th Aviation Support Battalion. They are scheduled to undergo training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma before going overseas this summer.

The battalion provides logistical and medical support for the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade, which is based in St. Paul.

The Guard previously announced that around 800 soldiers from the bridage would go to Fort Sill in May for three months before leaving for Iraq. The unit flies helicopters.

A deployment ceremony for C Company will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Hastings armory.
