Woman falls from 3rd floor window of Moorhead care center

Moorhead police say a 72-year-old woman with dementia fell from the third-floor window of a senior care center early Friday.

Lt. Jim Nielsen said the woman lives on a secure floor and was trying to leave to visit a relative.

Nielsen said she pushed out a window screen and lowered herself out of the window before falling 18 to 20 feet about 1 a.m. Friday.

Officers arrived to find the care center staff treating the woman on the canopy over a patio on the south side of the building.

Police said she was taken to MeritCare Hospital for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
