Travel experts are predicting that record-high gas prices will keep many Minnesotans from leaving the state this Memorial Day weekend.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman, Pat Arndt, says there are a still a few parks with openings for the big travel weekend.

"We hope that it encourages people to discover what's right in their backyard in their Minnesota state park. Because there is a state park in Minnesota within 30 miles of almost every person," Arndt said.

Arndt said campsites at 30 percent of the state parks are first come, first serve. Many parks are full for camping tonight and Saturday night, but the DNR says there are still some spots available.

Arndt says people do not need to stay in a park to participate in the many programs being offered this Memorial Day weekend.
