Alex Jackson named Minneapolis fire chief

Veteran firefighter Alex Jackson has been named fire chief in Minneapolis.

Jackson had been serving as interim fire chief since April when former chief Jim Clack left Minneapolis to become Baltimore's fire chief.

Jackson has been with the Minneapolis Fire Department for more than 27 years. Before becoming interim chief, he also served as assistant chief, deputy chief of personnel, fire captain, fire motor operator and firefighter.

Mayor R.T. Rybak will formally submit Jackson's nomination to the city's executive committee June 25th. He also requires City Council confirmation.
