State Rep. Mark Olson, R-Big Lake, has decided not to run for reelection.
Olson was charged with domestic assault, and was convicted last year of causing his wife fear of bodily harm.
Olson said the experience nearly destroyed his family, and showed him why so many people are upset with the state's family law system. Olson said he and his family need to completely heal before he takes the next step.
"I pray God that it might be in his will that one day I'll be able to either raise these issues in another camp so that they can be heard or address them some other way," Olson said.
Olson's decision not to seek reelection removes a barrier for the Republican-endorsed candidate for Olson's seat, former Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer.
