A recent graduate of Anoka High School will compete in his first wrestling match at the Olympics Tuesaday night.
Jake Deitchler, 18, won a spot on the U.S. men's greco-roman wrestling team just after graduating from Anoka High School, in the northern metro.
He's the first high schooler to wrestle for the U.S. since Mike Farina in 1976. He finished his high school career with 111 consecutive wins and three state titles.
The qualification rounds start at 8:30 p.m., Minnesota time. If Deitchler advances to the medal matches, those will happen around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Also Wednesday, Minnesota Lynx player Seimone Augustus and the USA women's basketball team will play Mali.
The U.S. women's volleyball team, featuring former University of Minnesota player Lindsey Berg, will play Venezuela. And the women's beach volleyball team, featuring another former Gopher Nicole Branagh, will play Cuba.
