The Republican National Convention begins on Monday in St. Paul. The last time that the Republicans held their national convention in the Twin Cities was 1892.
Local historian Iric Nathanson has written about the role of African Americans in that convention. He told Minnesota Public Radio's Cathy Wurzer that it came at a time when race relations, particularly in the South, were a hot issue.
