Ramsey County deputies convicted on federal charges

Two Ramsey County Sheriff's Department employees convicted by a federal jury have been terminated from their jobs.

Mark Naylon and Tim Rehak were each convicted on one count of theft of government funds and one count of conspiracy Wednesday.

A statement from Ramsey County sheriff Bob Fletcher says Naylon and Rehak submitted their resignations following their conviction.

The men faced the charges for a November 2004 incident in which they searched a motel room in which the FBI had planted more than $13,000 in supposed drug money. They admitted taking some of the money during the search, but said they were playing a joke on a third officer.

The men were acquitted of four wire fraud charges.
