Man pleads guilty to murder of probation officer

A St. Paul man will spend more than 40 years behind bars for his role in the beating death of former Ramsey County probation officer Howard Porter last year.

Fredquinzo King has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and kidnapping.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said the 29-year-old's trial was scheduled to begin today.

"There's an agreement that he will do 45 years in prison. The 12 jurors had been selected already in the case already at the time that he, King, accepted the plea offer from the county attorney's office," Freeman said.

Porter, a former college and pro basketball player, came to Minnesota for treatment for cocaine addiction and was working as a probation officer when he was killed.

Rashad Raleigh has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Another defendant pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting aggravated robbery for luring Porter to her St. Paul home, where he was beaten to death.
