St. Cloud State University will inaugurate Earl Potter as its 22nd president this afternoon, even though he has been on the job for 14 months.

Higher education inaugurations are typically celebrated around the first year of the new administration, when presidents are in a better position to talk about the visions for their schools.

Today's inauguration will focus on contributions to the community by faculty, staff, and students.

Potter envisions a stronger relationship between the university and the St. Cloud community. He is expected to address more than 500 people.

Potter came to St. Cloud State from South Oregon University, where he served as executive vice president and provost. He has also had academic administrative positions at four other schools.

Today's program also will include musical performances by university ensembles.
