The Minnesota Vikings have evened their record at three wins and three losses and are now tied for first place in their division following yesterday's 12 to 10 victory over the Detroit Lions.

The Vikings managed to come away with a victory over the winless Lions, even though their offense struggled for most of the day.

A pass interference penalty against Detroit is what allowed Minnesota to get into position for the winning field goal, which kicker Ryan Longwell made from 26 yards out with only 9 seconds left to play.

Before the costly penalty, the Lions looked like they might break a streak of 10 straight losses in the Metrodome.

With the Vikings trailing in the second half of the game, frustrated fans chanted for the firing of coach Brad Childress.

But the offense did manage one touchdown on an eighty-six yard pass from Gus Frerotte to receiver Bernard Berrian. It was the Vikings' longest touchdown pass since 1962.

And the defense kept the game close. Kevin Williams was the defensive leader with 8 tackles and 4 sacks.

The Vikings are now tied for first with both the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers. They face the Bears in Chicago on Sunday.
