Seagate to lay off 300 Twin Cities workers

California-based hard drive maker Seagate Technology today said layoffs the company announced earlier this week include about 300 jobs in the Twin Cities.

The company has major operations in Bloomington and Shakopee.

Monday Seagate announced plans to lay off 10 percent of its workers in the U.S The firm has about 8,000 employees nationwide.

The recession has hit personal computer sales hard. Minnesota-based Hutchinson Technology, a maker of a key component in hard drives, recently said it's cutting nearly 1,400 jobs, or 30 percent of its workforce.
