Owatonna firm cuts 100 jobs

(AP) - Another big Owatonna manufacturer is announcing layoffs. SPX Corp. has laid off 100 employees from its plant in the southern Minnesota city.

That's about 14 percent of the workers at the plant, which makes a range of tools, shop equipment and automotive components.

SPX spokeswoman Jennifer Epstein says the North Carolina company is laying off about 400 employees nationwide. She said employees would be offered severance and benefits.

Last month Owatonna's largest manufacturer, glass fabrication company Viracon, laid off 250 people.
