Sheriff's employees sentenced for stealing cash

A federal judge today sentenced two former Ramsey County Sheriff's employees to nearly three years in prison.

Tim Rehak received a sentence of 35 months in prison, while Mark Naylon will spend 30 months behind bars.

Both men were convicted in August of stealing money while executing a search warrant. They were caught taking $7,500 that they thought belonged to a drug dealer. In fact, the cash was planted by federal authorities who were investigating Rehak and Naylon as part of a so-called "integrity test."

At the time, Rehak was working with the sheriff's special investigations unit, while Naylon was the department's public-information officer. Both men were also ordered to pay a $7,500 fine.
