Local Army unit recognized for service
Members of the 88th Regional Readiness Command were honored today at Fort Snelling for outstanding service.
The unit received the Army Superior Unit Award for its stateside handling of soldiers being mobilized to fight overseas.
From October 2005 through September 2006 the unit supported more than 18,500 soldiers and civilians in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. It also executed training exercises to prepare soldiers for deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Major General James Sholar, Commanding General of the 88th Regional Support Command, says it's gratifying to receive this high honor.
"We believe the 88th RRC is only the second, what I am going to call field unit, to ever receive the Army Superior Unit Award in the Army Reserve, and that is a very significant moment," said Wilson.
The unit reports to the 88th Regional Support Command based in Fort McCoy, Wis.
