Shot deputy making amazing recovery, says wife
It was two weeks ago today that a sheriff's deputy was shot in the line of duty in the small town of Mahnomen in northwestern Minnesota. Mahnomen County Deputy Chris Dewey not only survived serious wounds to his head and abdomen, but he's making what doctors say is "miraculous" progress.
After initial treatment and rehabilitation at Fargo's MeritCare Hospital, Dewey has recovered enough to be transferred to a facility in Denver that specializes in traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.
Throughout the ordeal, Dewey's wife Emily has kept a low profile, but she agreed to talk with All Things Considered about Chris's recovery so far.
Dewey will be transferred Thursday from Fargo's MeritCare Hospital to Craig Hospital in Denver that specializes in traumatic brain and spine injury.
