Researchers at the University of Minnesota are planning to conduct more animal trials on a treatment that could help stop the virus that causes AIDS from spreading.

Researchers found that five rhesus monkeys, who had glycerol monolaurate, or GML, inserted into their vaginas, were not infected by the HIV virus.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Dr. Frank Rhame, the research director at the Infectious Disease Clinic at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He has been working on AIDS research since 1981.
