MPCA issues air quality alert in Twin Cities
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says an air pollution health alert will be in effect in the Twin Cities through Saturday evening.
An air pollution advisory - for slightly lower levels of air pollution - has been issued for Saturday in Rochester.
An earlier health alert for the Twin Cities was supposed to expire Friday, but it was extended due to fine particle levels in the air. Northern winds are expected to clear the air on Sunday.
Sources of particle pollution include motor vehicles, power plants, residential wood burning, agricultural burning and some industrial processes. People are asked to minimize driving and vehicle idling and avoid pollution producing activities like wood burning.
