Police reinstated in Elko New Market

The council voted on April 9 to remove the officers from patrol and contract with the Scott County Sheriff's Office. Eight officers were placed on administrative duty.

But more than 100 people packed a meeting on Thursday night to protest the decision days after vandals spray-painted "This is what no cops look like" at a local park. The meeting was moved to a local elementary school to accommodate the large crowd.

The council responded by voting unanimously to reinstate the police force.

Elko New Market is a town of about 3,800 residents south of Lakeville.
