Wisconsin declares public health emergency

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has declared a public health emergency after two more probable cases of swine flu were identified in Wisconsin.

The state health department announced Thursday afternoon that probable cases have been found in Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties.

That brings the total statewide to five. Two cases in Milwaukee County and one in Adams County were announced previously.

The state has asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to confirm the cases.

Among other things, a public health emergency directs the state Department of Health Services to take all necessary measures to prevent and respond to flu incidences and distribute state and federal anti-viral stockpiles.
