Judge expected to rule Friday in forced chemo case

A judge is expected to rule Friday on whether to order a 13-year-old boy with cancer to undergo chemotherapy.

That word came from the State Court Administrator's office on Wednesday.

Daniel Hauser, of Sleepy Eye, and his parents are fighting efforts by Brown County officials to force him to undergo chemotherapy. The family says that would violate their religious beliefs. They belong to a church called the Nemenhah Band, which advocates natural remedies.

Doctors testified last week that Daniel has a 90 percent chance of being cured of Hodgkin's lymphoma through chemotherapy and radiation, but that there's a 95 percent chance he'll die without conventional treatment.

Attorneys submitted final arguments to Judge John Rodenberg on Tuesday.
