President Barack Obama is considering more than six contenders to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter.

The list is dominated by women and Hispanics, including judges and leaders from his own administration who have never donned a judicial robe.

The president's review process is expected to intensify in the coming days, with a decision near the end of May.
