Man arrested after sexual assault at Forest Lake High School

A 19-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a Forest Lake High School student in a school entryway.

The man is being held on suspicion of 1st degree sexual assault for the incident, which occurred on Wednesday after classes ended, police said.

Police said a female student let the suspect into a locked door, and that he assaulted her just inside the door.

Staff members apparently saw the incident and the suspect fled. He was arrested after fleeing the school on foot.

"We are confident that our student body that's in school today is safe," said principal Steve Massey at a press conference this afternoon.

Police sergeant Greg Weiss said the victim and suspect were acquainances. He also said that the school does seem to have been properly secured, and that staff seemed to have intervened appropriately.

Charges could be filed as soon as tomorrow. Authorities are still investigating details of the incident.
