Grand Forks council votes to demolish auditorium

Grand Forks officials have decided to demolish the city's 50-year-old Civic Auditorium.

City Council members and Mayor Mike Brown unanimously voted to get bids for the project. Demolition costs have been estimated at $300,000.

Some say the building should not be torn down. Rural Grand Forks resident Ray Dohman offered to buy it for $100.

Council members say the city-owned property should be developed, possibly using parts of the old auditorium. Options include a housing complex or a multi-use building.
