Pretenders to play at Orpheum following animal rights complaint

The Pretenders will now play Aug. 19 at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis instead of at the Minnesota Zoo after musician Chrissie Hynde expressed concern over animal treatment.

Hynde, an animal rights advocate, released a statement Thursday explaining her decision. She says she had misgivings about performing at the zoo after learning that animals in a petting zoo display go on to be slaughtered at the end of the season.

A zoo spokeswoman has said the "Family Farm" exhibit is meant to reflect an actual working farm.

Tickets for the show at the Orpheum are expected to go on sale June 19. --- Information from: St. Paul Pioneer Press, http://www.twincities.com
