16-plus years for Roseville woman in stabbings

A Roseville woman was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison today in connection with the stabbing of her two daughters last August.

Sylvia Lynn Sieferman pled guilty in May to two counts of attempted second-degree murder. She said at the court hearing that she intended to kill the 11-year-old girls because she feared they would be placed in foster care and raised by strangers.

Sieferman, 61, called 911 on August 21, after stabbing her daughters. She told the dispatcher, "I killed my children."

Sieferman had also stabbed herself in the neck.

"This is a case that is tragic beyond words," said County Attorney Susan Gaertner. "But I believe that justice was done with today's sentence. And I take heart in knowing that the young victims are doing well in their recovery from this horrific event."
