St. Paul's Regions Hospital opens new emergency center

Getting emergency medical treatment in the east part of the Twin Cities is going to get easier this week with the opening of an expanded emergency center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The Regions emergency center treats patients with some of the most serious wounds in the state to the minor aches and illnesses of people who have no other place to go for care.

The 54,000-square-foot center is expected to care for more than 66,000 patients this year, with that total growing to 85,000 in the next five years.

Regions says the new center will include an eight-bed "fast track" area for patients with minor injuries or illnesses to help them get treated in less than an hour.

The expanded center opens Wednesday.
