Raise coming for some Minn. minimum wage workers

Friday's bump in the federal minimum wage will mean a raise for some but not all Minnesota workers at the bottom of the pay scale.

The federal minimum rises to $7.25 per hour, up from $6.55.

It applies people who work for businesses that produce or handle goods for interstate commerce, companies with annual dollar volume above $500,000 and public-sector payrolls.

Minnesota hasn't boosted its minimum wage since 2005. A bill increasing it was vetoed in 2008.

Minnesota companies with annual sales of less than $500,000 aren't compelled to pay more than $5.25 per hour. Those workers won't necessarily get a raise under the federal change.
