Minn. veterans home in Fergus Falls to expand

Construction begins Wednesday on a unique addition to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

The addition includes a 21-bed special care unit with a porch, park benches, street lamps and other homey touches. The 33,000-square-foot expansion also include a new outpatient clinic and bigger dining area.

Veterans Affairs Commissioner Clark Dyrud will attend the groundbreaking ceremony with other officials.

Construction is scheduled to end by January 2011. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is paying about two-thirds of the $9.5 million cost, with the rest coming from the state.
