Two dead in apparent murder-suicide in Circle Pines

Authorities said the death of two people at a Circle Pines apartment complex this morning was the result of a murder-suicide.

Erica Wilson, 38, had just moved out of the home she shared with her partner, James Schwartzbauer, 46, in an effort to end the relationship, police officials said. The couple had been together for 25 years, never married, and had three adult children.

Anoka County Sheriff's Office officials believe that Schwartzbauer shot and killed Wilson, and then killed himself. Officers interviewed witnesses who reported seeing a verbal confrontation between the couple in the parking lot just prior to the gunshots.

Schwartzbauer had been transported to Region's Hospital last week because of suicidal statements, but he was released the following morning without being admitted, police officials said.

The Wyoming Police Department had removed several guns from Schwartzbauer's home with his children's assistance. Police officials said they are investigating the origin of the handgun used in the killing.
