The Red Wing Republican Eagle will print two editions a week instead of five as it tries to save money and focus on publishing more local news.
The newspaper says that starting Sept. 2, it will deliver print editions on Wednesdays and Saturdays while continuing to post breaking news on its Web site.
Publisher Steve Messick announced the new strategy to staff members Tuesday afternoon.
As examples of the re-focusing, he says the switch will allow staffers who now handle national wire stories, or compose pages for the print editions, to concentrate on local issues.
The newspaper will continue to be delivered by the postal service, as it has for the past four years.
Messick says no editorial jobs will be eliminated as part of the change.
The paper is owned by Forum Communications Co. Last year, The Superior Telegram, another Forum-owned paper, also switched to a twice-a-week publication model.
