Apparent murder-suicide in Harris, Minn.

A man in rural Harris apparently strangled his wife to death before killing himself late Wednesday night, police said.

The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. when police received a 911 call from a child who told authorities her father was chocking her mother, according to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived at the house, they found a woman inside was dead. Officials began an intensive search for the man began, who had fled the scene. He was later found dead inside the shop area of a nearby outbuilding, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities have not identified the two victims, pending notification of the family.

The Chisago County Sheriff's Office, North Branch Police Department, Wyoming Police Department, Lakes Area Police Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minnesota State Patrol and Lakes Region Emergency Medical Service responded to the scene.

Harris is about 50 miles north of the Twin Cities.
