As Carol Molnau's boss gets ready to leave the Minnesota governor's office, the lieutenant governor's own future is a question mark.

Molnau has left open the possibility of joining the race to replace Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty. She described such a bid as "highly unlikely" when Pawlenty made his announcement.

Some Republicans are mentioning her as a possible candidate for Congress. She lives in the 1st Congressional District, now represented by Democrat Tim Walz.

Molnau says she wants to discuss her future with her family before making any public announcement.

Molnau previously held a dual role in the administration, serving as transportation commissioner until the state Senate refused to confirm her in 2008.
