Authorities rescue man from Red River in Grand Forks

Emergency officials in Grand Forks and neighboring East Grand Forks, Minn., rescued a man who jumped off a Red River bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.

Officers lined both banks of the river Wednesday evening and sent out two rescue boats. The man eventually grabbed a line thrown out from one of the boats.

He was taken to a local hospital for a mental-health evaluation.

Both cities outlaw swimming in the river. Grand Forks Police Sgt. Derik Zimmel said authorities will consider charges against the 38-year-old man, given the amount of resources deployed to save him.
