Southbound I-35 to reopen to two lanes this weekend

In an effort to make travel quicker for some Labor Day weekend motorists, MnDOT is briefly reopening a closed lane of I-35 north of the metro area.

The section of I-35 between Harris and North Branch has been reduced to one lane since late July for construction purposes.

The southbound lanes will be opened to two lanes through the construction zone at noon on Saturday. It will revert to a single lane after 9 a.m. Tuesday, MnDOT said in a statement.

Northbound I-35 will remain a single lane. Motorists are encouraged to use both lanes of traffic until the merge point and then take turns merging into the single lane section.

The project is expected to be completed in late October.
