Driver killed after I-35W rollover accident in Minneapolis

A rollover accident on I-35W early this morning killed the driver of the vehicle and injured a passenger.

The vehicle appears to have been speeding prior to the accident, according to Lt. Matt Langer of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The vehicle struck a median wall while traveling south near 50th Street on I-35W, then went across lanes to the right and struck the west wall. The vehicle then rolled over and the driver was ejected.

The names of the driver and the passenger have not yet been released. The extent of the injuries to the passenger has also not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

A section of the freeway was closed briefly due to the accident, but has since been reopened.
